Stephan, the lost son, showed up on the stoop last night bearing gifts, and a very funny birthday card that read: "Happiness is like peeing in your pants. Everyone can see it, but only you can feel its warmth."
I'm off to DC in the morning, so Stephan made the leg over from Bend to delight me with the birthday gifts. Stephan is an actor and loves all things movies. I had mentioned to him during a past visit that I'd love to have a copy of Song of the South, the old Disney movie that's been banned for very good reasons. Made in the 1940s, the movie is racist in nature, portraying a plantation-era south.
I hate that.
But I love this movie. How can you not love Uncle Remus? Or Zippity-Do-Dah-Day? Or Briar Rabbit?
I don't know where Stephan found the copy of SOS at but I am so glad he did. Thanks, son.
Several of you have written to tell me about the website being down. Thank you. It's complicated. Seems my server got bought out by another server and they switched over this weekend and so far the website remains down. I'm not sure when it'll be up again but soon I hope.
I'll be reading my father's name at 10:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Wall. Then I'll be speaking to the Young Republican Club at Trinity University. I'll be talking at storytime at the Vietnam Womens Memorial at 10:30 on Sunday.
If you are there, come find me.
