No sleeping in this Saturday. Shelby had us up by 7 a.m. and on the road shortly thereafter. She was signed up for a Howl & Scream fun run in Tri-Cities. I was looking forward to cheering her on, till we stepped outside and got slapped around by some biting wind. It was cold, cold, cold. And, as Konnie kept mentioning, "A very blistery day." She meant blustery. Konnie is the product of whole language. She often uses the wrong word, like when she told me my car was so "confided." She meant confining.
Blistery or blustery, we made it to the run and while I cheered Shelby on at the beginning of the race, I spent the next half-hour in the car, trying to keep out of the blistery/blustery wind. Shelby did better than she expected -- clocking about 9 minute miles.
Afterwards, we spent the morning kicking around Tri-Cities, shopping, hanging out. We got home about 2 p.m. and then, because we hadn't yet used up all the extra energy of ours, we put on a Corrine Bailey Rae CD and danced around the living room.
When we weren't dancing, we were making artichoke dip, apple bread, and a variety of other yummy things. We finished off the day with a round of Hermistonoply, a local form of Monopoly. Tim and Konnie won, of course, since both of them are better at money management than Shelby or me. Or maybe it's just that they are both more greedy than we are!
When the kids were little, we often spent our days dancing around the living room, cooking in the kitchen and entertaining ourselves. We don't get many days to do that now that the kids are all grown. Any day for running, for dancing, for apples & cinnamon, and for board games with the kids, are all and all very good days.
Shelby made her little tu-tu, since she claimed she always wanted to be a ballerina.... She ran with it on. Quite the creative soul, that Shelby. And brave one, too, to put up with that biting wind.
